Steel City Interactive has shared another update on Undisputed 2, this time responding to some of the questions and feedback that came out of its previous developer video. Much of the discussion centered on the studio’s approach to boxing, authenticity and how it plans to build on the foundation of the original Undisputed.
The team said authenticity remains a big part of that process, especially in a sport where promotions, sanctioning bodies and other organizations do not always make collaboration easy. Rather than relying on generic championships and branding, Steel City Interactive has worked with organizations like the WBC, WBO, IBF and The Ring with plans to continue bringing more of the real boxing world into the series.
That same approach carries over to the fighters themselves with the studio putting an emphasis on motion capture rather than simply recreating movements through traditional animation. Fighters including Roy Jones Jr., Oleksandr Usyk, Teofimo Lopez, Terence Crawford, Sunny Edwards and Dalton Smith have been involved in motion capture work, giving the development team a chance to recreate some of their individual movements and fighting styles more closely.
Former world champion Sunny Edwards is taking on an even larger role with Undisputed 2, serving as a consultant across several areas of development. His involvement includes motion capture, punch physics, animations, cinematics, commentary, ring walks, venues and other details that shape how boxing looks and feels in the game. Edwards described his role as providing something of a boxer’s seal of approval as the team works through those different pieces.
Steel City Interactive revealed a few additions to the Undisputed 2 roster as well, starting with former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor. The studio said it had been trying to bring Taylor into the series for several years and he will now be joined by another boxing legend in Roberto Durán.
Daniel Dubois is another new addition with the heavyweight recently visiting the studio to complete his own motion capture session. Dubois went through the process of being measured and suited up before recording punches, movement and other boxing actions that will eventually be translated into his in-game counterpart.
The studio isn’t avoiding some of the problems players experienced with the first Undisputed either. Online desync and punch-targeting issues were specifically mentioned as areas the team plans to discuss and demonstrate in future development updates, rather than leaving players guessing about what is being addressed.
Steel City Interactive plans to keep these videos coming as development moves forward with future updates covering more of the questions and concerns coming directly from the community. The team continues to ask players for feedback as it works on Undisputed 2 with more details on gameplay, online improvements and other parts of the sequel expected in the months ahead.
